In 1891, the Australian-born person Astley Cooper from Australia came up with the idea of the Commonwealth games. Through this, the world could know how much the British Empire is united. According to history around 11 teams participated in the British Empire Games that took place in 1930 in Hamilton, Canada.
Around 400 athletes were sent for this program and they participated in different programs. The women only participated in swimming games. After this, it was decided that event will take place at the interval every four years.
Countries participating in Common Wealth Games 2022
Commonwealth games just started on 28th July 2022 in Birmingham. Around 72 countries are participating in this event. The athletes participating in these events are around 5,054 who will be taking part in 280 events of 20 sports. This game brings people together and people from different countries play to win battles for their countries. Here the winning country is decided based on who wins most of the games at the end of the event. The country that wins is awarded a certain amount of prize and a trophy.
Pakistan Performance in Common Wealth Games 2022
Let’s jump to the performance of Pakistan teams taking part in the Commonwealth Games 2022. So, the flag bearers of the country for the 2022 event were Muhammad Inam and Bismah Maroof in the opening ceremony. Till now Pakistan is performing quite well winning gold medals for the first time in history making a count of 2. On Sunday, history was made by Arshad Nadeem who won the gold medal for the country in the Javelin Thrower among the subcontinent countries. He threw the Javelin 90 meters far breaking all the previous records of not only his but also of his competitors. People showed joy over his success and celebrated it in a different style. Before Arshad Nadeem, one more Gold medal was won by Pakistan marking the First Gold medal for Pakistan in the history of Commonwealth games. Noor Dastagir participated in a weightlifting competition and won the gold medal for the country. He lifted around 405 kg which helped in defeating his competitors.
