Brief Insights On Coronavirus

Coronavirus is a disease caused in the respiratory system of humans by some related group of viruses, and can even lead men to death. More interestingly coronavirus is not some disease that only happens in humans i.e., animals suffer from coronavirus as well. If discussed particularly, coronavirus damages the upper tract of the human respiratory system and can also damage the intestine. The severity of this infection can range from curable to non-curable.

As far as animals are concerned, coronavirus usually occurs in bats and pigs. There are seven different types of coronaviruses that have affected the human race so far. These types are discussed in the following section of this blog.

Types Of Coronaviruses

There are in total seven types of coronavirus discovered so far which are related to human beings. Upon division four of them have midrange risk while the rest of the three can be deadly.

  • Mid-Range Risk Types Of Coronavirus

These types of coronavirus usually occur in the upper respiratory system of human beings and are way more common than the other three types of coronavirus.

  1. 229E

Infants are the ones who are most affected by this type of coronavirus. It aims to damage the lower respiratory organs by forming infections in the form of pneumonia, etc. Other than infants, people with low immune systems are prone to it. Symptoms include sore throat, cold, or fever. This is known to be the second most common type of coronavirus.

  1. OC43

It is the same virus that caused the pandemic of 1889. Though it is now very easily treatable and does risk life. This coronavirus happens to reside and infect humans as well as cattle. The most common symptom of this type is cold.

  1. NL63

The severity of this coronavirus depends upon what region it has targeted. If the targeted region is the lower respiratory system tract, then the infection can be serious. On the other hand, if the region affected is the upper tract the damages caused are of mild risk. It can infect infants as well as people who already have some respiratory disease in the past.

  1. HKU1

Another common type of coronavirus was discovered in January 2004 by a Hong Kong resident. It also infects the upper respiratory tract of the human body. The most occurring symptom of HKU1 is cold. However, if not treated well it can transform itself into bronchiolitis or pneumonia.

  • Severe Types Of Coronavirus

Following are the types that can be found to be extremely deadly for humans as they can take human life as well. According to research, these types occupy 15 to 25 percent of all colds that happen to humans.

  1. MERS CoV

MERS CoV is abbreviated for Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Corona Virus. 30 to 40% of all the patients diagnosed with MERS die. It first cases for reported in Saudi Arabia in the year 2012.

MERS in humans is caused by camels (those having the same disease). It concludes that MERS is not not only just human-to-human communicable but also animal-to-human communicable.

  1. SARS CoV

SARS CoV is abbreviated for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Corona Virus. The origin of this virus is found to be China in the year 2002. So far SARS has been reported to occur in 26 countries where it has caused over 8000 cases. Noteworthy, no cases of SARS have been reported after the year 2004 from any region of the world.

Symptoms of SARS CoV include weakness, fever, muscle pain, cough, etc.

  1. SARS CoV-2

It is the extension of SARS CoV. Also known for being the virus that caused COVID-19. It was the first time identified in 2019 in a city in China called Wuhan. People with lower immune systems i.e., mostly old age people are prone to this disease. The symptoms of SARS CoV-2 include cough, heavy breathing, headaches, loss of smell and taste senses, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.

So, as per the name the coronavirus gives us simply the impression of COVID-19. However, it is a lot more than that and has been in existence for a long time back. Also, its severity depends upon what type one is suffering from.
